| César Chávez was an American farm worker of Mexican descent, labor leader, and civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers. He is hailed as one of the greatest American civil rights leaders. His birthday has become a holiday in several U.S. states. He was posthumously awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom on August 8, 1994 by President Bill Clinton making him only second Mexican American in history to be awarded this honor. |
